The KC Blues served as the farm team of the St. Louis Blues. They signed a lease for the American Royal Arena on April 19, 1967, bringing hockey back after a 16-year absence.
In the first game, they beat Forth Worth 4-1 in front of 6,147 at the old American Royal Arena. It was an interesting experience for fans, and it wasn’t just the game that was interesting. The arena had broken windows, holes in the roof, and rats.
The Blues played 5 years before they suspended operations after the 1971-72 season.
The Blues returned after the Kansas City Scouts moved to Colorado.
After the Blues won their title in 1977, they moved to Salt Lake City and the minor league affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings took their place. The Blues in their second run lost an estimated $500,000.
